Simpsons Creek upgrades commence

The East Gippsland Rail Trail (EGRT) Committee of Management (CoM) has started upgrades to the final section of trail east of Simpsons Creek, thanks to funding through the Victorian Government's Regional Tourism Investment Fund.
This project marks the completion of the 96km trail surface refurbishment, making it safer and more enjoyable for users of all abilities.
"Our volunteer committee is excited to deliver this final piece of the trail transformation. This completes the surface upgrades that began in November 2019 with the McEacharn Street to Nicholson River Bridge section," Gaynor Rettino, chair of the  CoM, said.
"It's taken hard work and persistence from our small, dedicated committee to secure significant funding to upgrade the trail to a world-class tourism asset. We're thrilled our latest application was successful.
"We regularly receive feedback from trail users that the EGRT is one of the best they've ever ridden, and this newly upgraded section will enhance the user experience.
"Our committee thanks the Victorian Government for their trust in us to deliver this project that will benefit the local community and businesses by attracting users from intrastate, interstate and internationally."
The upgrades have been carried out using local contractors and locally sourced materials, reinforcing the committee's  commitment to supporting the regional and tourism economy.
